Kansas City School of the Arts is governed by a permanent board of directors. The board of directors are responsible for the oversight and policy making decisions of the school. The Kansas City School of the Arts - as a public charter school - is not associated with the Kansas City Missouri School District.
The Board of Directors have approved Board Policies and Regulations. These board policies and regulations were passed to provide an exceptional educational foundation for our students, parents, and community.

Ms. Charleen Hunter, President
Ms. Hunter is a retired teacher and administrator from the Kansas City Missouri School District.
Mr. Steve Mirakian, Vice-President
Mr. Mirakian is an attorney with Wrysch, Hobbs, and Mirakian Law Firm in downtown Kansas City. Their law firm represented the Westport Edison Charter School when their charter was revoked by the Kansas City Missouri School District.
Mr. Harlan Brownlee, Secretary
Mr. Brownlee is the Executive Director of the Kansas City Young Audiences. KCYA provides art experiences for schools across the KC metropolitan area with over 200 teaching artists. KCYA also includes the Community School of the Arts - offering arts-related classes evenings and weekends.
Mr. Matthew Tidwell, Treasurer
Mr. Tidwell is the Director of Public Relations at Kansas City Power and Light. He has served on several non-profit boards within the community.
Mr. Allen Epstein, Board Member
Mr. Epstein is an accomplished musical composer. He is a former music teacher in the Kansas City Missouri School District.
Ms. Sonie Ruffin, Board Member
Ms. Sonie Ruffin is a fabric artist. In addition, she is the Executive Director of the Faso Gallery (formerly the Frazier Gallery) on Troost Avenue.
